Subbuteo Makes a Comeback in Singapore at Millenia Walk

In recent years, Subbuteo, or Sports Table Football, competitive tabletop game played by two players with teams of 11 finger-sized figurines, which are controlled with flicks of the finger, has seen a revival in Singapore with growing participants taking up the sport.

This weekend, Millenia Walk will play host to the Asian Cup of Sports Table Football Singapore 2019 from 14 – 16 June 2019.

The event will feature players from Asia, including Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore competing in various events of Sports Table Football.

The rules are similar to regular soccer, with free kicks, throw-ins, corners, off-sides, etc, albeit shortened to 30-minute sessions. Players play by flicking the figurines to kick the ball to score goals against the opponent.

Committed to social responsibility beyond its everyday business, Karcher actively supports local sports. This year, Karcher Singapore has been a sponsor for Singapore Badminton Open and both the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup, and now the main event sponsor of the Asian Cup of Sports Table Football 2019.

Vincent Sim, General Manager at Karcher Singapore Private Limited, said: “We have chosen to support this event because the game of Subbuteo brings back fond memories for many Singaporeans. In the days before the console games were popular, kids and adults alike, will play this game at home, corridors and void decks.”

“I encourage fans of Subbuteo to come by Millenia Walk during the weekend of 15 and 16 June 2019 to relive the excitement of this game once again. In Karcher, we believe in making a difference not just for the latest trends, but also cultivating the spirit of inter-generational exchange and sports.”

“Like many other industries, sports and games has been disrupted by technology advancement and cultural changes. We have seen more computer-based football games these days and it is difficult for a game like Subbuteo to make a comeback amidst the availability of snazzy digital alternatives. We hope that by demonstrating the game in a more accessible manner, we can introduce it to new players.” Says Tan Kok Wee, President of the TFAS.

Held from 14 to 16 June 2019, the Karcher Asian Cup of Sports Table Football 2019 will feature an exciting lineup of games played live at the Millenia Walk.

Fans and members of public will also get the opportunity try their hand at this game, by simply spending $50 at Millenia Walk on 15 and 16 June 2019 and get a chance to try out 3 shooting flicks at the Karcher Asian Cup venue.

Score a goal to receive an exclusive Karcher gift (while stock lasts) and a 20% Harvey Norman discount voucher (applicable for Karcher products for the month of June 2019).
