The PARKROYAL on Pickering is a very unique sight with its ‘birdcages’ and gardens visible from street level. I’ve always wondered what it’d be like on the inside. And now I finally know.

PARKROYAL on Pickering, is very conveniently placed smack in the middle of the Chinatown, Clark Quay and Boat Quay triangle. Which makes getting there very convenient with the MRT and bustops just across the street. As you enter the lobby you’re greeted by green plants, beautiful orchids and ponds. Seats are lined up facing the plants and a pond and facing the road side. Where guests can sit and read a book, listen to music or just simply relax.

The room (Orchid Club)was quite interesting and made good use of space with its sliding panels that slid open to reveal the bathroom and give the room itself a much more ‘open’ feel and which also gave you the option to slide the panels shut for some privacy when you need it.

A divan is set up at the glass panel which looks out over Far East Square and gives you the opportunity to sit there with a glass of wine or a nice cup of coffee (a Nespresso machine is available in the room – the while the complimentary capsules aren’t Nespresso, but decent nonetheless – a stark contrast to our experience at Carlton Hotel).

Next up, out of the room and to the poolside. Located on the 5th level you find that those ‘birdcages’ are actually pool cottages where you can just sit in an chill.

Take a short walk to the opposite and and you’re greeted by a small garden patch filled with pumpkin, rosemary, tomato and more . Carry on walking and you’ll hit the sauna and a couple more of the cottages over hanging out of the hotel.

The Club lounge is my favorite part of the hotel. Much with the rest of the hotel’s theme its open concept and wooden interior gave it a very earthy feel. The buffet area looked like it was part of a nice island kitchen that you’d find Jamie Oliver around (kinda like what my dream kitchen would look like) and you had the choice of traditional roundtable seating or seats along the window panels to look out at the city while having your meal.

The spread had good variety. The yogurt was cold, the fruit fresh and the bread warm and soft. The service staff were very friendly and quite attentive as well. No complaints.

I love the way the hotel has been set up to give the calming effect. Great way to just take time off and de-stress from work and everything else.

Just outside the club lounge you’ll find the open-air section area, which is well stocked with seats and a great view that guests can take in to stargaze at night — well, as much as you can star gaze in the Singapore city that is.

I definitely had a refreshing and relaxing staycation at PARKROYAL on Pickering and would definitely come back again – maybe add a massage to the experience.
