This June, Hendrick’s Gin is once again turning heads—and tender—by reviving one of its most wonderfully whimsical traditions: The Great Cucumber Exchange.
From 16 to 19 June, Singaporeans are invited to ditch cash and carry cucumbers instead, as bars and restaurants across the city transform into delightfully peculiar trading posts.
In celebration of World Cucumber Day, Hendrick’s Gin pays tribute to its most curious of ingredients by accepting the humble cucumber as legal tender. The reward? A refreshingly odd Hendrick’s & Tonic, served on the house while supplies last.
This year, cucumber-carrying patrons can also opt for two special cocktails from Hendrick’s Cabinet of Curiosities: the floral and charming Hendrick’s Flora Adora, or the newly released Hendrick’s Grand Cabaret, a rich and fruit-forward tipple inspired by indulgent soirées.
As anticipation builds, don’t be surprised if lunchtime in the city suddenly gets… greener. The mysterious “Cucumber Town Council” will be roaming Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar during lunch hours, handing out free emergency cucumbers to the thirsty and the curious.
These cucumbers have a twist—each can be redeemed at a nearby bar for a complimentary Hendrick’s cocktail.
“In the curious world of Hendrick’s, the cucumber has always been more than just a garnish—it’s at the heart of our delightfully odd spirit,” says Charmaine Thio, Hendrick’s Gin Southeast Asia Brand Ambassador.
“Following last year’s exchange of currency for cucumbers, we’re excited to return with a playful twist and a nod to our eccentric heritage. The Cucumber Town Council is making its debut in Singapore to keep the city cool, crisp and well-lubricated.”
Known for its distinctive blend of rose and cucumber, Hendrick’s Gin has always treated the cucumber with great reverence. It’s not just a quirky garnish—it’s the essence of the gin’s bright, smooth and complex flavour. So it only makes sense that for World Cucumber Day, the fruit should step into the spotlight as a refreshing form of currency.
Participating in The Great Cucumber Exchange is simple. From 16 to 19 June, head over to refreshinglycurious.com, choose your preferred bar or restaurant from the list of participating venues, bring your cucumber, exchange it for an e-voucher at the bar, and sip on your complimentary cocktail of choice. One cucumber equals one cocktail per venue.
No cash. No credit. Just cucumbers. Hendrick’s Gin invites you to toast to the unconventional and celebrate the quirkiest currency in town. It’s a deliciously odd way to keep your cool—and your curiosity—in check.
Stay curious, Singapore. The cucumbers are coming.
