An Eldritch Moon Shines Over Magic: The Gathering

The last protections over Innistrad have faded. Ancient powers reach forth to corrupt the plane, and now Innistrad’s fate rests in the hands of unlikely allies. Magic: The Gathering – Eldritch Moon, the latest expansion from the popular strategy trading card game, continues its saga in Innistrad and will be made officially available from 22nd July in Asia.

Eldritch Moon picks up with the death of Avacyn. Nahiri has summoned Emrakul to the plane, to take revenge on Sorin Markov. The Titan of Corruption and Warper of Biology manipulates all living things into Eldrazi Horrors.

Mutations frequently occur in Emrakul’s fibrous lattice motiv. The mutations include five increasing levels of corruption: distorted, disfigured, deformed, misshapen and monstrous. Some of the creatures meld together into new organisms. Now Innistrad’s fate rests in the hands of unlikely allies. Jace Beleren brings the Gatewatch, and Liliana Vess brings hordes of undead immune to Emrakul’s influence.

Eldritch Moon, The new expansion from Magic: The Gathering will introduce 205 new cards and will feature new gameplay elements on both sides of this grisly conflict – such as Meld, Emerge and Escalate.

The first of the new features, Meld, does exactly that – cards will meld together into one giant creature. Much as how you would transform werewolves, introduced in the previous expansion Shadows over Innistrad, some double faced cards feature only half a card on the other side. Find it’s Meld partner and you get to summon something a whole lot more grisly for your opponent to worry about. For example, the angels Gisela and Bruna meld to form the disturbingly horrifying Brisela:

Emerge cards allow you to sacrifice creatures to bring out the big boys for less. You can choose to bide your time and pay the high mana costs, or “upgrade” and swap out smaller creatures for one that will do a whole lot more damage.

Finally, the Escalate mechanic allows you to power up your cards at a higher cost – bigger bang for more bucks basically. The Escalate cards add a little more mobility to your style of play and help you adapt to the situation at hand and might just prove decisive.
