Wizards of the Coast has released Bloomburrow, the latest set for the world-renowned trading card game, Magic: The Gathering (MTG).
Set in a fantastical woodland plane, Bloomburrow is Magic’s first entirely non-human plane, where courage and great power reside in the tiniest critters. Bloomburrow is available for tabletop play starting 2 August 2024.
Players in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines can gather for a courageous adventure at their local play stores, as Wizards of the Coast (SEA) announces Play Season, their latest engagement initiative.
From now until 31 October, Play Season kicks off with “Mabel’s Journey.” Players can head to their local WPN (Wizards Play Network) stores to participate and score unique collectibles (while stocks last) by completing designated in-store activities during the season.
In Bloomburrow, players will step into the Valley, an idyllic pastoral woodland where tails, scales, and wings wield swords and magic.
When a terrible peril looms over this peaceful plane with the rise of the Calamity Beasts, it takes mighty amounts of courage in the smallest of creatures to save the valley.
Join the brave mouse Mabel and her adventurer friends: Gev the lizard, Hugs the badger, Finneas the rabbit, Zoraline the bat, and the now-otter planeswalker Ral Zarek, as they fight to restore peace.
Bloomburrow introduces new and returning mechanics that the denizens of this woodland plane employ to defend against calamitous threats.
Offspring, a new keyword found on creature cards, allows the tiniest heroes to play their part by creating a token copy of the original card with 1 power and 1 toughness (1/1) for an additional mana cost.
The Gift mechanic provides various advantages in exchange for promises specified on a card, such as food tokens or drawing a card, helping sway the tide of battle.
Forage is a new action that allows players to exile three cards from their graveyard or sacrifice a food token to trigger varying effects, ensuring they never go into battle on an empty stomach.
Valiant creatures, those with a brave heart, may have this new keyword which triggers bonus effects whenever a spell or ability targets the card.
The Expend rule term tracks how much mana a player has spent throughout a turn and grants boons depending on the amount used while the Expend term was in play.
Modal Spells allow players to adapt to their surroundings by triggering up to three different effects listed on the card, each costing pawprints.
These spells can be triggered more than once, creating opportunities for powerful combinations.
Collecting Bloomburrow offers an array of exciting opportunities. The set features 24 Imagine: Courageous Critters Planeswalkers, such as Jace, The Mind Sculptor, Liliana of the Dark Realms, and Nissa, Who Shakes the World. They may be smaller in size but remain as powerful as ever.
Prominent artist Mitsuhiro Arita has illustrated the mythic card Lumra, Bellow of the Woods, while David Peterson has brought their passion for tiny yet mighty creatures to life with five key character cards, including Helga, Skittish Seer.
Bloomburrow also boasts 42 gorgeous Showcase Woodland frames available for collection, with intricate elements that change between the animal factions of Valley.
The natural landscape of Bloomburrow changes drastically throughout the seasons, depicted in stunning full-art basic land cards available in Autumn, Summer, Spring, and Winter varieties. Additionally, Three Tree City, a powerful Legendary Land card, has four separate artistic illustrations representing each season.
Experience the enchanting world of Bloomburrow and discover your inner folk hero as you journey with the smallest and bravest adventurers in Magic: The Gathering’s first all-animal set.
