Singer-songwriter Sezairi has surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify this week with his hit single “It’s You”, becoming the first Singaporean artist to do so.
“It’s You” was certified 6x Platinum across Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia and 1x Gold in Taiwan, marking a significant milestone for the artist.
Released in 2018 with Sony Music Entertainment Singapore (SME Singapore), “It’s You” is part of Sezairi’s second EP, “Undertones”. The highly anticipated ballad peaked at number two and number 17 on Spotify’s Top 50 – Indonesia and Viral 50 – Global playlists respectively, reaching up to three million listeners per month and topping the Viral 50 Charts in Malaysia and Singapore within a week of its release.
“I am incredibly thankful to everyone who has supported my music since day one. Crossing the 100 million mark is a dream come true for any artist and I am humbled by the love I’ve received,” says Sezairi.
“As a Singaporean and Malay singer-songwriter, it has always been a privilege to be recognised for my English-language music since I am walking among giants on the international music stage.”
“Crossing this milestone with ‘It’s You’ is also a personal victory, as it characterised a point in my career where I felt the most motivated to create music that is true to my style and closest to my heart,” added Sezairi.
Sezairi is SME Singapore’s first local artist who achieved Platinum certification across three countries in Southeast Asia, making him a true cross-over artist in the region.
“We are incredibly proud of Sezairi for making history and setting precedence for other local artists in Southeast Asia who are looking to expand their fanbase regionally and globally,” said Ariel Fung, Executive Vice President, Sony Music Entertainment Southeast Asia.
“Southeast Asia has a very diverse music scene influenced by a mix of cultures. As a leading music label, we are dedicated to helping our local and regional artists find the right platform to showcase their music globally.”
“We look forward to supporting Sezairi in his ongoing musical pursuits and are excited about his next big achievement,” added Fung.
After winning the third season of Singapore Idol and releasing his first debut album, “Take Two”, Sezairi launched his eponymous album with SME Singapore along with his first hit single, “Fire To The Floor”.
