Steampunk is a subgenre of science fiction and fantasy that features antiquated, intricate steam powered technology and designs that are particularly influenced by, and a fusion of, Victorian, Goth and Western Industrial styles.
What does that mean? Well basically, gears, pipes, corsets, top-hats and goggles… definitely goggles.
Here’s our Steampunk Heroes and Villains Cosplay Picks of the Week!
Steampunk Ariel
We begin with Steampunk Ariel by The Artful Dodger Cosplay. A very simple but effective outfit. It might not have all the bells and whistles (literally) that’s typically found on steampunk sets, but the work on the trident and corset paired with the goggles and “scaled” slacks pulls the look together really well…. oh and the red hair *melts*.
Steampunk Lara Croft
Next we’ve got Steampunk Lara Croft by Meagan Marie. Check out those guns… I mean really. While it looks pretty simple from the front, she’s ready to (I dunno) take off (maybe) with what looks like a Rocketeer inspired backpack/jetpack.
Steampunk Scarecrow
Steampunk Scarecrow by J Lance Cosplay is creepy as H-E-‘Double Hockey Sticks’. I wouldn’t wanna meet him in a back alley. Brings back memories of Doctor Who’s ‘Empty Child’ episode.
Steampunk Flash
This Flash has been zipping around the interwebs for a while now, but we still can’t seem to figure out who this guy is. I can’t express how much I love that hood.
Steampunk Batman
Iron River’s Batman looks ready to swoop down (hard) on crime. Now those wing look just a little too flimsy for my liking. I wouldn’t be gliding anywhere on those. A headbutt from that helm though would be enough to convince any evil-doer to think twice when crossing bats.
Ironman 1889
Unlike Steampunk Ariel, Ironman 1889 has ALL the bels and whistles… every last one. Not a lot of bells and whistles, ALL of them.. and probably the kitchen sink to boot. The amount of detail on the costume is simply amazing.. all the way down to the ‘Stark Foundries‘ gears!
Steampunk Doom and Silent Boba
Cons can be a tiring thing. Sometimes you just need to pick a spot and chill. I love how these guys (and photographer Michael Stippich) managed to set this up so well. Doom and Silent Boba… now this needs to be an animated movie! Kevin Smith!… make it happen!
Steampunk Rogue and Phoenix
Photographer Ron McKitrick‘s got a good eye. Rogue and Phoenix are spot on. Rogue’s colours are absolute amazing and the ‘fiery’ feathers in Phoenix’s hair is a really nice touch. #BetterOutfitsThanXMenTheMovie
Steampunk X-Men
Well we’ve seen Rogue and Phoenix, here’s the rest of the X-Men Steampunked. We’ve got Kitty Pride, Jubilee, Sabretooth, Dark Phoenix, Wolverine, Rouge, Emma Frost, Cyclops (a monocle heh) and Beast.
Stempunk Buddy Christ
Now this is just hands-down epic. It’s so awesome wanna pinch baby. Our second Kevin Smith reference, but probably one of the most awesomely geeky cosplays… Buddy Christ…We don’t quite know who he is, but this outfit is GENIUS! “Who’s your God?”
