Donnie Yen talks about Mulan and how it Empowers Women

Donnie Yen, the martial arts superstar, plays Commander Tung in the latest Disney live-action remake – Mulan.

Based on the Chinese folklore “The Ballad of Mulan”, Liu Yifei stars as the eponymous character, alongside a star-studded cast of Liu Yifei, Jason Scott Lee, Yoson An, Gong Li, and Jet Li in supporting roles.

Unlike the other Disney adaptations, such as Lion KingBeauty and the Beast and Aladdin, Mulan will stray from the original version as it revisits the tale.

Donnie talks about how he “grew up” watching the animated version with his daughter and how the movie is really about women empowerment, both on screen and behind the scenes.

Mulan is directed by Niki Caro, with the screenplay by Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Lauren Hynek, and Elizabeth Martin.
