David James and Karl-Heinz Riedle Join Battle Of Europe 2016 In Singapore.

More players for the Battle Of Europe 2016 have been confirmed today and fans can look forward to an epic battle as goalkeeper David James and striker Karl-Heinz Riedle lace up their boots again on 12 November at the National Stadium.

Making his first appearance for the England Masters at the National Stadium, James brings with him an impressive resume with 53 caps for England between 1997 and 2010. He lies in fourth on the list of all-time Premier League appearances having played in 572 top-level matches, and previously held the Premier League record for 170 clean sheets.

Eager to join the England Masters, James shared, “Matches against Germany are always memorable and the Battle of Europe is no different. I’ve always enjoyed my trips to Singapore and it will be extra special for me this November and I am looking forward to playing alongside my team mates in a couple of months.”

In addition to James, the England Masters have also called on the services of Aston Villa legend, Lee Hendrie. Named the Club’s “Young Player of the Season” Award in the 97/98 season, Hendrie made 251 appearances for The Claret and Blue and scored 27 goals in his career with the Club. He also featured in the 2000 FA Cup final alongside teammate, James.

The England Masters will have their work cut out when they meet the Germany Masters at the National Stadium. Already consisting of Germany’s most prolific player Lothar Matthäus, Karl-Heinz Riedle, nicknamed ‘Air’ for his skills in the air, has also confirmed his participation in the November 12 showdown. Riedle, who won the World Cup with Germany in 1990 and UEFA Euro in 1992, said “I have such great memories of playing for Germany, so I’m really looking forward to the match. Playing against England is never easy but we’re always up for the challenge.”

Not neglecting the defence, the Germany Masters will have Borussia Dortmund legend, Christoph Metzelder in their backline. Metzelder collected 50 caps with the German national team and featured in two World Cups and the European Championships in 2008.

“It is always our aim to bring together some of the best names in international football for our fans, who have been so supportive over the years. The players are all eager to return to the pitch and are itching for a good game!” concluded Steve Black, Chief Executive Officer of Masters Football Asia.
