The Conjuring: Last Rites is an eerie and surprisingly emotional sendoff for Ed and Lorraine Warren, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga once again nailing their roles.

Continuing the trend of adapting the supposed investigations of the Warrens’ Last Rites focuses on the infamous Smurl haunting from 1986 in Pennsylvania, bringing just the right mix of creepy moments and heartfelt drama. It’s less about nonstop scares and more about wrapping up the Warrens’ journey in a meaningful way.

While the movie has its fair share of jump scares, it’s nothing compared to The Nun II. I recall predicting the jump scare based on the music. Safe to say, you won’t be shocked too many times, unless you’re already susceptible to the supernatural.

The way the movie is shot remains similar to how the previous instalments were, so you know what to expect in terms of horror delivery, nothing inventive there, but still, why fix it if it isn’t broken…

All the actors played their parts convincingly. Whilst the movie as a whole did feel intense, there was a right amount of light heartedness and comedy sprinkled around the movie, culminating in a somewhat satisfying ending.

So, what happens when a professed demonologist and a clairvoyant have a child together? And no this isn’t going to end with a punchline joke, because that’s kind of central to the story of The Conjuring: Last Rites. It’s also thematic that they found an actor who played Archangel (from X-Men: Apocalypse) to be her boyfriend.

Be prepared to half cover your eyes and have trouble sleeping or looking in a mirror after watching The Conjuring: Last Rites, which’ll begin haunting theatres from 4th September 2025!
