Rumours Bar & Grill Review – Western Cuisine with Balinese Hospitality

The Good
Free Flow Drinks have a huge variety of options
One of the most affordable Florentina T-Bone steaks in Singapore
The Bad
The German Platter was very underwhelming

Never would I have thought that affordable and Holland Village could exist in the same sentence until Rumours Bar & Grill came along.

Originally from Bali, Rumours Bar & Grill have opened up along the stretch of bars along Holland V providing great food and delicious drink, along with the great atmosphere the Balinese are known for, all at a really affordable price.

Opened for about 6 months now, Rumours serves mostly western dishes ranging from steaks, burgers, pastas as well as bar snacks.

Being a steak lover myself, the 1.2kg Fiorentina Bistecca (or really huge T-bone) was definitely the highlight is was not only delicious, but also served with delicious carrots and tomatoes that aren’t just there for colour variation. The best part is that it only costs $89.80++!

Not many places in Singapore serve the Fiorentina Bistecca, and if they do it’s usually way more expensive.

The Rumours Grilled Cheese Burger was also cooked to perfection with a really juicy patty served with really good fries and their pastas were also great but nothing too groundbreaking.

However, there was one pretty disappointing dish which was the German Platter, the pork knuckle was really dry and the skin although crispy was really salty as it felt like they added more salt on the skin just before serving it and the chicken served on the side tasted more like batter than chicken. The only saving grace for this dish was the Bratwurst which tasted great but a little dry.

The Rumours Bar also serves up a variety of drinks from beer to cocktails to even mocktails is alcohol isn’t your fancy.

If you’re a beer person I would definitely recommend their very own Rumours Beer which tastes light and flowery and unlike most other recognized beer brands, their beer towers also come with a free bar snack!

I also highly recommend the 2 hour free flow at $35++ which has a huge variety of choices as it includes their cocktails, wine, beer and spirits. So if you’re planning on drinking a little more or want to have a variety of drinks through the night definitely get their free flow option.

The food and drink may be great but what truly sets Rumours apart from most bars for me is the atmosphere, first you have a live band every Monday to Thursday (the bands also rotate everyday) with DJs coming in on Friday and Saturday.

On top of that, you could definitely feel the Balinese vibe from the staff who seemed very relaxed and easy going but not in a bad way. They also occasionally join the live band to sing if they aren’t too busy attending to guests, which to me created a very fun and enjoyable atmosphere unlike most bars in Singapore.

Overall, I definitely would recommend Rumours Bar & Grill as a place not only to dine but to have a few drinks and unwind (or go crazy on Fridays and Saturdays).

Do also quote ‘Welcome Rumours’ to the staff to redeem a free grilled cheese burger with any purchase of a main course from now till 31st August 2018.
