PlayStation Announces New Pulse 3D Headset Colour And Releases Major Software Update

Building upon the new galaxy-themed colours PlayStation introduced for DualSense wireless controllers in June, the Pulse 3D headset is also getting a new colour – Midnight Black.

This new look for the Pulse 3D headset will match the same colour scheme as the DualSense Midnight Black wireless controller – with two subtly different shades of black. The Pulse 3D headset in Midnight Black will begin rolling out globally from October 29.

While all PS5-compatible headsets can be used to experience 3D Audio with PS5 games, the Pulse 3D headset is specifically designed to take full advantage of the console’s Tempest 3D AudioTech, with a fine-tuned frequency response to help players more precisely place sounds in exact locations to match on-screen gameplay.

The announcement comes after a couple of major updates that have been released for the PS5. A new equalizer control feature for Pulse 3D headset within PS5’s sound settings will allow gamers to select from three presets — Standard, Bass Boost, or Shooter which is designed to place extra emphasis on the sounds of footsteps and fired shots.

These three presets were popular among players who used the PS4 headset companion app and have now been optimized to complement PS5 Tempest 3D AudioTech. Users can also create their own presets and save up to three settings to have more quick-access options. Additionally, players can adjust these equalizer settings during gameplay through Control Center, without needing to exit the game.

Also included is the eagerly-anticipated update to expand the current storage using M.2 Solid State Drives (SSD). Once installed in the PS5 or PS5 Digital Edition console, M.2 SSD storage can be used to download, copy, and launch PS5 and PS4 games, as well as media apps.

Users will be able to play PS5 and PS4 games directly from M.2 SSD storage and freely move games between storage options.

The Pulse 3D headset will be available at SGD149 / MYR469 / IDR1,699,000 / THB3,490 / PHP5,590 / VND2,699,000) from October 29.
