Netflix is Developing its Originals into Video Games

Netflix hosted a panel at the E3 Coliseum that discussed how the company is working with some of the world’s most talented game developers to build games that will give fans the opportunity to play their favorite Netflix series and films in video games.

While the primary focus of the Netflix business remains bringing TV shows and movies to its members around the world, it is also focused on bringing fans new ways to engage with the original series and films they love by creating video games based on popular movies and TV shows.

Fans can look forward to Stranger Things 3: The Game launching July 4, 2019 on the Nintendo Switch, XBOX One, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, Android and iOS globally.

The adventure game aims to blend a retro art style with modern gameplay mechanics to deliver nostalgic fun with a fresh new twist. Players can team up with a friend in local co-op to explore the world of Hawkins, solve puzzles, and battle the Mind Flayer as one of twelve characters from the show.

Fans can also expect The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance Tactics to be launched in 2019. Available globally on the Nintendo Switch, XBOX One, PlayStation 4, PC and Mac, the game is adapted from the highly anticipated Netflix Original series (of the same name).

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, will be a turn-based tactics that game will challenge fans to recruit an army of characters and creatures from across the vast fantasy world of Thra and strategically command them in more than 80 campaign battles.

In the 2020 pipeline sits the upcoming Stranger Things Mobile Game for Android and iOS. The mobile game based on the Stranger Things universe will be a location-based RPG/puzzle game will allow players to explore The Upside Down hidden around them in their daily travels and work together with other players to overcome its emerging evils.

Beyond standalone video games, Netflix is also extending the characters and worlds from its original series and films into existing games from partners like Roblox, Ubisoft, and Behaviour Interactive later this year. You may have also spotted the Scoops Ahoy easter egg in Fortnite a few weeks back when Season 9 launched.

This is just the start though. We’re sure there’s more to come.
