Comics of Singapore Histories (COSH Studios) is a new series of graphic albums that brings to light little-known stories of Singapore’s past, real or otherwise. The storytellers whisper in the gutters between the factual and the fantastical to imagine futures, pluralities and alternatives.
And now, COSH Studios is ready to take over Pearl’s Hill!
With all the comics from their first and second phases of publication released, the artists behind each title will be showcasing their works at ArtBlovk, in conjunction with the Singapore Heritage Festival 2018.
“We want to give audiences a glimpse into how we use comics as a medium to show that stories can happen anywhere – especially in places around us,” Koh Hong Teng, a member of COSH Studios and the artist of Coalition of the Savoury Spare Parts said.
As it is written, works from COSH titles Coalition of the Savoury Spare Parts, Final Resting Place, Guidebook to Nanyang Diplomacy, Kungfu Dough, Terumbu, Unstable Foundations, and We’ll Eat When We’re Done will showcase behind-the-scenes sketches, originals, or prints. With a crew comprised of both industry veterans and new names, so be prepared for a spectrum of styles and stories.
See something you like? Certain pieces will be up for sale or get your own copy of any of the titles on sale at the gallery – so you can take a piece of heritage home with you!
The COSH Studios Heritage Comics Exhibition will be a month-long exhibition at Artblovk from 13 April 2018 to 13 May 2018. Come down for the exhibition launch on 13 April, 7 PM to 9 PM. Entry is free.
