Can't compare to SSD speeds

It’s a constant battle between keeping high-quality content and storage space. Seagate has enlisted King T’Challa, and his crew, to join the fight.

One can never have too much storage, a fact you realize when you start to run out and then have to make the decision on what to “KonMari” away, and what to keep. This can be extremely frustrating when you’ve digitized everything (games, photos in lieu of physical copies) and realize that you need to go through that whole process again.

With the advancements in digital storage technology and the rise of SSD (Solid State Drives) and now the super-fast NVMe (Nonvolatile Memory Express) drives, there’s a reason why the trusty HDD (Hard Disk Drive) is still around and hasn’t gone the way of the CD and Disk/Tape Drives.

While NVMe and standard SSD drives are much faster than Hard Disks, they’re much more expensive. The HD still provides the better option when looking purely at storage.

The officially licensed Black Panther Special Edition FireCuda External Hard Drive is a great option for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the King of Wakanda.

Measuring 0.57in x 3.15in x 4.82in, the drive is very compact and easy to store. The Black Panther takes centre stage on the face of the drive, and the Wakanda-inspired textured background provides grip that’s functional and looks good as well. The base of the drive also features an embossed Black Panther emblem that I found really cool.

There are three design in this series – Black Panther, Shuri, and Okoye.

Build-wise, the drive feels pretty study, but it still isn’t something that I’d needlessly drop.

The drive comes with one USB 3.2 Gen 1 cable that’s all you really need to start. Plug it into your PC and it should be detected immediately. Out of the box, the drive’s LEDs glow Magenta. The RGB LED lighting can be fully customizable if you install the free Seagate Toolkit software (PC is required).

Performance-wise, the drive has a read and write speed of about 129 MB/s on CrystalDiskMark. Which isn’t bad for an external hard disk.

However, speed aside, the main purpose of the Black Panther Special Edition FireCuda External Hard Drive is its king-sized storage at 2TB. Currently available for about SGD 139 on the Seagate Offical Store on Shopee, the drive offers good value. It also comes with Seagate’s Rescue Data Recovery Services.

The Black Panther Special Edition FireCuda External Hard Drive is a 2TB storage solution that is portable, stylish and good value for money, especially since it can work with the PC, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox.
