Ronaldo’s Not Enough To Give Juventus The Win

Juventus threw away the lead at the Singapore National Stadium only to have Harry Kane stun the crowd with a half-way line winner. Goals from Higuain and Ronaldo put them in the driver’s seat at the hour mark, but goals Tottenham Hotspur had other plans for them.

The Old Lady enjoyed close to 54% of the ball, however, failed to threaten the Spurs goal with only 12 shots compared to the 19 shots from their opponents. Main man Cristiano Ronaldo was taken off slightly past the hour mark and was unable to contribute further to the game.

Here is what Maurizio Sarri had to say whilst in Singapore:

On Pogba: It’s not my problem. I like the player, but he is not a Juventus player and I don’t want to talk about a Manchester United player.

Thoughts: Pogba has been linked with a move away from Manchester however, nothing has been confirmed yet. United fans will be hoping he stays for the long term future.

On De Ligt: At the moment he hasn’t done a single practice with his teammates, so he’s not fit. But he needs some time on the pitch with them, so tomorrow he will play for a short time.

On Ronaldo and Higuain: Gonzalo is a Juventus player at the moment, so he is part of the team and he is in my plans. I don’t make transfer decisions, so if the club decides differently, we will adapt.

Cristiano will be placed on the left-forward because I believe that is where he can perform the best. But I believe he is so good that he can really play in any forward position, so I might move him later on in the season if needed.

Thoughts: It might be times up for Higuain at Juventus, but we’ll see what happens over the next couple of weeks and if he’s still in Italy for the upcoming season.

On adapting to Juventus: I am still the same during practice. I have my own style of playing so the players have to follow me. I like having fun, because you work better when you have fun. In this phase the players have to adjust to me, but later on I will also have to make decisions based on the players’ features and abilities. I’d say for 70m of the pitch it will be my style of playing, then in the remaining 30m it will be up to them. The club has been very welcoming and have created a very pleasant working environment.

Thoughts:s Sarriball!!

Juventus will go on to play Inter Milan on July 24 at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Center in Nanjing and Athletico Madrid on August 11 at the Friends Arena in Stockholm.
