Transformers 4 – Age of Extinction is finally here and as it usually is with a sequel. there are several new robots featured!
Here’s a rundown of some of the bots you’ll be seeing in the movie – in comparison to what I know by watching the trailers and how they stack up to their previous incarnations in the comics and animated series.

Generation 1 (i.e. old school)
Hound was as an Autobot scout who made good use of his ability to project holograms for added disguise. Transforming into a military jeep he grabs any opportunity to explore the sights Earth has to offer. He’s a docile, noble robot, even compared to his Autobot allies. He gets along with the combat ready Autobots (but not too well with the over-zealous ones though).
Age of Extinction:
Hound is a technical specialist and a highly experienced Autobot who commando throws himself into any mission without a second thought. He transforming into an Oskosh Medium Defense Tactical vehicle and he’s armed with guns from head to robotic foot which makes him a real lethal one-robot-army for the Autobots.
Thoughts:
I think Hound was a character people definitely wanted to see on the big screen. However, while he’s a great addition it feels like he’s just filling the spot of Ironhide after he got shot by the traitorous Sentinel Prime in the last movie. Especially with all the guns and what not. They seem just a tad bit too similar.
[divider]Drift[/divider]
Generation 1:
Being a former Decepticon, Drift has had his fair share of Autobot kills when he was known as the Decepticon Deadolock. But just like Jetfire, he’s seen the damage the Decepticons and the war has caused and has since abandoned his merciless ways, changing up his guns for swords along with his name and appearance. He has since been a valuable ally for the Autobots.
Age of Extinction:
All we know about Drift is that he is a former Decepticon that changed sides during the war. He looks like a samurai carrying swords and transforms into an awesome Bugatti Veyron – yes they are using a lot of super cars in this movie – and he looks like he could take out hundreds of Decepty-bad guys out without the use of a single gun.
Thoughts:
I like how they kept close to the origins story of this guy – at least they are trying to follow the G1 continuity somewhat. Although I think the samurai look could be pushing it a bit – ‘Robot Samurai?! Really? – But yeah, I really don’t think he’ll be a pivotal character in this movie anyway.
[divider]Grimlock[/divider]
Generation 1:
Some Autobots question why this hulking mass of destruction is on their side, especially since he has the attitude more suited to the Decepticons. Grimlock values power and strength over intelligence and compassion any day – plus he can’t really get along with the Autobots either. But what the Autobots don’t realize is that he hates those who abuse their strength above anything else, which has always put him on the right side of the fence.
Yes, with all the power he is kind of a brute with little to no brains, he’s all ‘hack and slash first’ questions later kinda robot. But even though he isn’t very smart he knows a true leader when he sees one and thus holds great respect for Optimus prime’s strength and Leadership – although they have been known to disagree.
Age of Extinction:
Well, Grimlock is HUE. Much bigger than his previous incarnations…. and his robot mode resembles a knight’s armor. We can see that he first fights Optimus Prime in the trailer, but this could be him testing Prime’s strength and capability as a leader before he decides to join the Autobots. As you can see in the photo (above) he does join the Autobots and lets Optimus ride him like how Super Mario rides his pet dinosaur Yoshi.
Thoughts:
When I first watched the trailer I was like ‘Holy that’s Grimlock!!!!’ I really never thought they would ever put him in the movies… but there he is – truly a force of pure strength. I’m really excited to see how they are going to fit him into the movie and how many robots he’s gonna wreck!!!! For sure!!!
[divider]Galvatron[/divider]
Generation 1:
Galvatron is always portrayed as the rebirth of Megatron in all incarnations of the character. Always more powerful than his past life he is a force to be reckoned with. Still leading the Decepticons, he transforms into a self-mounted cannon that can blast through literally anything. He is blind to all but his lust for power; his whims and desires can be sacrificed in a moment’s rage and he truly became insane after being reborn – he even became a threat to both the Autobots as well as the Decepticons.
Age of Extinction:
Not much is known about this current incarnation of Megatron, he’s only been featured once in the trailers, all we know is that he was rebuilt by humans and is controlled by them. He does transform into a truck similar to Optimus Prime.
Thoughts:
I thought it was a bit ridiculous he was built by humans and the fact that he was going to be controlled by them. I hope they do not just give him some small part in the movie and kill him off again. He IS the leader of the Decepticons after all.
[divider]Lockdown[/divider]
Generation 1:
A world class bounty hunter, he’s technically Decepticon, but as long as you’re paying the highest buck he’s on your side till a better offer arises. He does whatever it takes to get his bounty and is always about business. He’s very straight to the point and not afraid to tell anyone what he thinks of them for better or worst.
Age of Extinction:
He’s lean, mean and hunting down Autobots. Why? because he was simply hired to. As seen in the trailers his head can transform into a gun .. and the rest of hims transforms into a Lamborghini Aventador (told you a lot of super cars) – He will be the main antagonist of this movie.
Thoughts:
I think Lockdown is an amazing addition to the cast he’s ruthless and will do anything to get the job done; I definitely want to see him in action on the big screen.
