Star Wars Day 2020 on May 4th seems to have become more unlikely with every passing week. With a whole slew of movies having been put on ice (till July, anyways) and Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) on the back burner, the geek life for 2020 is a tab light. It doesn’t help that May the 4th and FCBD fall in May, as do most blockbusters.
But the Force is strong with the geekdom. And, say what you will about the movies, the franchise has never let us down. So while conventions may be cancelled, fans still have cause to celebrate.
The Mandalorian Gets Real
The Mandalorian‘s been a hit with Star Wars fans old and new alike. In fact, it’s been the only thing Star Wars fans have agreed on since loving Ewan McGregor.
The end of season one, which debuted on Disney+ just last year, has left fans wanting more. Whether more of the show, or more of “baby Yoda” remains to be seen. Regardless, more is what fans will be getting with Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian.
With season two scheduled for later this year, fans will have to make do with Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian a “making of” documentary. An eight-episode series, this will follow Jon Favreau on set. A veteran host thanks to The Chef Show, Favreau will be talking to the cast and crew of The Mandalorian. A real Star Wars Day treat indeed.
Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is an opportunity for fans of the show to take a look inside and get to see a different perspective, and perhaps a greater understanding, of how The Mandalorian came together and some of the incredibly talented contributors throughout season one.
– Jon Favreau, Executive Producer
Given the “Disney Gallery” banner, this could be the first in a slate of docuseries. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian is expected to cover the filmmaking process, the legacy of George Lucas’ Star Wars, how the cast brought the characters to life, the series’ groundbreaking technology, the artistry behind the show’s practical models, effects, and creatures, plus the creative influences, the iconic score, and connections to Star Wars characters and props from across the galaxy.”
With a May 4th premiere date, Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian will air alongside The Clone Wars finalé rounding out Star Wars Day 2020.
The Clone Wars Gets Order 66’d… Again…
Both The Mandalorian and The Clone Wars will a have little more than Star Wars Day 2020 in common.
The final run of episodes on The Clone Wars sees the Mandalorians (a different bunch) teaming-up with Ahsoka Tano against Maul. The much awaited Siege of Mandalore promises to be an epic ending to the series… and maybe more.
Well, I will tell you there is a lot to be excited about with these upcoming episodes. I don’t want to say too much but I will say these episodes are epic. Truly some of the best Star Wars, I think, that’s ever been made. Everyone brought their A-game, everyone brought their best to these episodes and they’re truly mind-blowing and I think they’re gonna be essential viewing moving forward – especially as part of the films from Episode II to Episode III.

The Siege of Mandalore promises to bring many Star Wars plots together. And it’s hardly surprising given the many things to have happened since The Clone Wars first ended in 2014.
From the second (and final death) of Maul at Obi-Wan’s hands (again) in Rebels, and his appearance in Solo: A Star Wars Story, the character has become more key than one would have expected 21 years ago. Additionally, with the reveal of the Darksaber in The Mandalorian, The Clone Wars finalé may help fill in some of its history in the three decades between.
The same could be said for The Clone Wars break out character, Ahsoka. Having been a subject of conflict when she first appeared, the character has since become a fan favourite. From her appearance in Rebels as the mysterious Fulcrum, to her rumoured upcoming live action debut in The Mandalorian season two, clearly much more greatness awaits her.
So let the light of Star Wars Day 2020 keep you strong in these times! Remember, even the ability to lockdown a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force.
