It’s finally upon us – the holy grail of Geekdom (in Singapore) – The annual Singapore Toy, Game and Comic Convention (STGCC), the largest and most highly expected annual entertainment and pop culture event will take place at Halls B & C, Level 1, Marina Bay Sands from September 6-7.
STGCC is all set to take Southeast Asia’s pop culture scene by storm. From East to West, from comic book artists to the elusive creative forces behind popular Japanese entertainment, this year’s STGCC will see a wide range of pop culture personalities appearing in Singapore for the first time, bringing with them new collaborations and exciting news.
Freshly announced at the recently-concluded San Diego Comic-Con, Fight Club, the novel brought to stardom in 1999 by Brad Pitt and Edward Norton in the Hollywood cult classic of the same name, is taking on a new storytelling format and returning as a comic book series – Fight Club 2.
Cameron Stewart and David Mack, who will be in Singapore to meet fans at STGCC, are working together on the artwork for all 10 issues of the highly anticipated sequel, with Stewart doing the art, and Mack as the cover artist. The series, published by Dark Horse, will debut in May 2015.
David Mack, famed for the New York Times Best Selling KABUKI Graphic Novels and Daredevil from Marvel Comics, is back at STGCC with first-timer Cameron Stewart, an Eisner Awards (the comic industry’s equivalent of the Oscar Awards) winning writer and artist.
Together with artist Babs Tarr, Stewart recently gave DC Comics’ Batgirl a new look, and he is officially on board as part of the new writing team with Batgirl #35, starting in October 2014. Stewart also wrote and drew the Assassin’s Creed: The Fall, Assassin’s Creed: The Chain and Assassin’s Creed: Brahman, based on the extremely popular Assassin’s Creed video game series.
Comic artist Olivier Coipel rose to fame as the artist of the DC Comics’ Legion of Super Heroes, before moving on to Marvel Comics, and teamed up with writer J. Michael Straczynski (also the creator of popular science fiction TV series Babylon 5) on the critically acclaimed book Thor, where he designed the look of the God of Thunder. Coipel has also showcased his gift for spectacle in his work with writer Brian Wood as the penciller for the series: X-Men, and his three issues of Avengers vs. X-Men (AvX) comic book series as an artist.
Harvey Tolibao, who we met a couple of years ago, has been working with Marvel Comics on several projects, including Young Avengers: Hulking, X-Men: Hellbound, and the Silver Surfer series. He is currently working on the highly-anticipated book X-Men V4 and will be going to American publisher Dark Horse Comics to draw for the Ghost comic book series.
Returning to STGCC after two years, Tolibao will be launching a brand new HMT (Home of Multi-Talent) Studios artbook at the show to inspire other artists. Get ready to be impressed with the amazing collection of artwork in the book!
Pop culture fans will get the opportunity to meet-and-greet a wide range of internationally celebrated names at STGCC, like Humberto Ramos, the man behind the re-launched Amazing Spiderman, who we had the chance to meet just a little earlier.
For the Toy-fanatics, Hot Toys will join forces again with ActionCity, its official distributor in Singapore to participate in the event (booth F3) and bring the specially designed Sci-fi spaceship, together with a wide variety of newly announced collectibles there.
Hot Toys is proud to officially announce that we have acquired the right to manufacture 1/6th scale and 1/4th scale collectible figures from the STAR WARS universe, including the upcoming highly anticipated Star Wars Episode VII that is set to hit theaters in December, 2015. To celebrate this marvelous moment, Hot Toys will showcase the officially approved life-size costumes of Stormtroopers, Sandtrooper & Biker Scout from the 501st Legion Singapore team at the Star Wars zone which is specially created to celebrate the moment.
This year, Hot Toys has specially decorated the booth as sci-fi spaceship theme, exhibiting the newly developed movie-accurate collectibles from the highly expected licenses including the classic Back to the Future, Alien and Aliens, The Dark Knight Series, the hugely successful Guardians of the Galaxy, Maleficent, Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, The Amazing Spiderman 2, as well as the classic and highly popular THE TRANSFORMERS GENERATION 1, many of which will unveiled for the first time in Singapore.
