Republic of Gamers (ROG) has recently announced the launch of the ROG Ally, an impressive Windows 11 gaming handheld that boasts exceptional power and performance.
Driven by the cutting-edge AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, the ROG Ally is designed to effortlessly handle AAA games and indie titles in 1080p, delivering a smooth gaming experience whether players are gaming solo or with friends. Backed by strong support and partnerships within the industry, the ROG Ally aims to establish itself as the ultimate handheld gaming device.
Equipped with Full HD (FHD) gaming capabilities, the ROG Ally stands out among other handheld gaming devices by offering faster and smoother gameplay for even the latest AAA titles currently available on the market.
Running on Windows 11, the ROG Ally has the ability to play games from various platforms and comes bundled with three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, providing gamers with a wide array of game options right out of the box. Gamers can enjoy playing solo, connect the device to a TV for multiplayer gaming sessions, or take advantage of the ROG XG Mobile suite of external GPUs to elevate their gaming experience to a top-tier level.
The ROG Ally is powered by the groundbreaking Ryzen Z1 Series processor from AMD. Built on the “Zen 4” architecture and combined with AMD RDNA 3 architecture-based graphics, the Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor competes with game consoles by featuring 8 cores, 16 threads, and up to 8.6 teraflops of graphics processing power.
Additionally, an AMD Ryzen Z1 variant with 6 cores and 12 processing threads will be released later in 2023. Both models of the Ally support AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution and AMD Radeon Super Resolution upscaling technologies, delivering outstanding performance and stunning visuals for demanding AAA and indie titles.
“Our team has spent over a decade developing the technologies necessary to enable the Ryzen Z1 Series of processors. Working with visionary partners like ROG, we’ve designed a platform that redefines mobile gaming,” said Renato Fragale, senior director of product management for the Consumer and Gaming Client Business at AMD.
“We’re excited for gamers to experience the first device powered by Ryzen Z1 Series processors with the launch of the ROG Ally.”
To ensure optimal performance, the ROG Ally incorporates the ROG Zero Gravity thermal system. This innovative cooling system utilizes a dual-fan setup with ultrathin heatsink fins and high-friction heat pipes to effectively dissipate heat and keep the device cool, regardless of its orientation.
The ROG Ally offers 16 GB of high-speed LPDDR5 6400 MHz memory, 512 GB of PCIe Gen 4 storage, and a UHS-II microSD card slot for expanded storage capacity. With WiFi 6E support, the Ally maintains a stable connection even in congested networks, whether gamers are playing multiplayer matches natively or streaming games via Xbox Cloud Gaming or AMD Link.
The Ally’s flagship gaming performance is complemented by its high-quality display. Featuring a 120 Hz FHD (1080p) touchscreen with AMD FreeSync Premium technology, gamers can enjoy exceptional motion clarity in fast-paced games without any tearing or stuttering.
The display also boasts a maximum brightness of 500 nits, enabling gamers to easily follow the action even in challenging environments, such as outdoors. Additionally, the touchscreen display allows seamless navigation of Windows 11 for quick settings adjustments and game installations.
The ROG Ally raises the bar for handheld gaming devices, providing gamers of all types with an exceptional on-the-go gaming experience. With its 1080p screen and hardware capable of running many of the latest titles at 60 FPS, the ROG Ally is sure to satisfy gamers’ needs.
Compared to other devices with 720p resolution, the Ally’s FHD touchscreen and AMD FreeSync Premium technology deliver superior image and motion clarity.
For enhanced gaming experiences, users can connect the Ally to a TV and charge it simultaneously using the optional ROG Gaming Charger Dock, allowing for couch co-op and competition with additional controllers.
By combining the Ally with an XG Mobile external GPU that features up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU, users can transform the device into a true gaming powerhouse suitable for living room couch gaming or high-end gaming experiences with a mouse and keyboard.
Gamers can enjoy playing AAA games at 4K resolution with ray tracing and DLSS 3, or dominate the competition in high-framerate esports titles.
ROG has collaborated with Microsoft, game publishers, and individual studios to ensure optimal gaming experiences for users of the Ally. Full support for platforms like Steam, the EA App, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, the Epic Games Store, GOG Galaxy 2.0, Android apps, and other game platforms guarantees that no matter where users download their games, the Ally can accommodate them.
Additionally, the Ally comes bundled with a free three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate code, providing gamers with immediate access to Microsoft’s extensive game library upon unboxing the device.
Further details regarding local availability, configurations, and pricing for the ROG Ally will be announced at a later date.
