Premier League Matchweek 1

Finally after a long wait of almost 3 months, the Premier League is back! Well, did it return with a bang? Yes, definitely! With the introduction of one of the greatest managers such as Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte and the return of the Special One himself to the league, matchweek 1 did give us a glimpse on what a great season there is ahead of us!

Unsurprisingly but still surprisingly, matchweek 1 did kick-off grandly with newly promoted Hull City, brushing aside champions Leicester City with a 2-1 win over the Foxes.

Record breaking signing Paul Pogba couldn’t debut with his new and old friends due to suspension. Nevertheless, Manchester United put in a satisfying performance to demolish A.F.C Bournemouth with goals from Mata, Rooney and Ibrahimovich.

Elsewhere, City and Chelsea had to grind hard for late goals to secure wins respectively. These scrappy wins will definitely be extremely useful in both Guardiola and Conte setting the winning and ‘never give up’ mentality in their squads!

Finally to the match of the week, goals galore as Arsenal took on Liverpool at the Emirates to a thrilling encounter, which ended 4-3 in the favour of Jürgen Klopp’s men! With a touch of class from Coutinho and the individual brilliance of Mane, Liverpool sure looked like they will be offering more stunning goals this season! Arsenal on the other hand…still look like they’ll be getting 4th again.

That being said, Liverpool may want to keep in mind that a strong offence is not always the best defence.

Well, it was an interesting first weekend of football in the Premier League with peeks of some good, some bad, and some mediocre performances. While it still might be too early to predict a conclusion, maybe the upcoming matches this weekend will shed some light on how the season may come to a close.
