Ah October’s upon us once again and while we don’t quite have the four seasons here on our island, it seems that there’s a very legitimate reason to party every season (or month). If there isn’t one, I’m sure given a couple of minutes we’ll find one in this melting pot of cultures.
October of course heralds the beer festival of beer festivals – Oktoberfest – a 16-day festival running from late September to the first weekend in October with more than 6 million people from around the world attending the event every year. The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture, having been held since 1810.
If you strain your ears just a little you can almost hear the clink of steins and mugs of beer all the from Munich, Bavaria, Germany. However, there’s no need to rush over to Germany cause Oktoberfest is coming to us – and has been a mainstay in our party calendars for a few months now.
On the back of the inaugural Oktoberfest Asia in 2013, the much anticipated event returns to our shores at Keppel Island from the 9th to 11th of October 2014.
This year promises to be more exciting as ever with more Bavarian beers to choose from, more authentic cuisine prepared by renowned Bavarian chef, Josef Nagler, Chef de Cuisine of the Weisses Brauhaus, Munich and also the return of the Original HofBräuhaus show direct from Munich.
“We want to bring this true experience to Singapore and hope to deliver at all fronts to make this event a truly holistic and memorable one.”
– Mr. Ian Lim, Organiser of Oktoberfest Asia
Renowned breweries, Benediktiner, Bitburger, Weihenstephan and Weltenburger Kloster will be added to this year’s draught beer lineup alongside Schneider Weisse and Paulaner Bräuhaus. “We want to be as authentic as possible by introducing the best beers Bavaria can offer.” Mr. Lim added. “Not many people have the opportunity to experience these beers out of Germany, and we have made the effort to bring these beers to your doorstep.” He added.
Bitburger is one of Germany’s top selling lagers from the Rhineland-‐Palatinate region. All the way from the Ettal monastery in Bavaria, Benediktiner will be presenting their Weissbier (Wheat Beer). Weihenstephan, the world’s oldest brewery founded in 1040, will be showcasing Weihanstephan Festbier specifically brewed for Oktoberfest in Bavaria annually.
Weltenburger Kloster, the world’s oldest Abbey brewery will be showcasing the original Anno 1050, a beer specifically brewed under the same specifications back in 1050. World famous German liquer, Jägermeister will again be the choice of shots for the night.
As with beer, the food on offer will be prepared with a true Bavarian touch; featuring a specially curated Bavarian menu by our master guest chef from the original Weisses Bräuhaus in Munich. Josef Nagler, chef de cuisine of Weisses Bräuhaus in Munich will be overseeing the preparation of the food this year in collaboration with Prive group, showcasing an authentic beer and food pairing experience.
“Food and beer always has a synergistic relationship over the years. In Singapore, culturally the consumption of food and beer doesn’t really have a strong bond as they are usually enjoyed during separate occasions of the day. Hopefully this will bridge the gap as the food will prepared specifically to pair and taste well with the beer.”
– Mr. Matt Bennett, co-organiser of Oktoberfest
But that’s not all! On the entertainment front, the Original Hofbräuhaus Show returns to Singapore as they promise to entertain all guests with well-‐known German songs and current hits. The band has played together for over 23 years and counts itself as one of the original acts for Oktoberfest in Munich. So make sure you wear your best shoes and get on those table-tops.
This year’s tickets also see a change in packages. A single day VIP ticket has been introduced at $180, and this will include a full meal and a free flow of draught beer all night long. “The VIP ticket is of great value as you will enjoy a hassle free experience of purchasing tokens and not to worry about bursting your own budget for drinks during the night.” Mr Bennett added.
This event is organised in partnership with Dre@mfields Pte Ltd, Magic Rock and MediaCorp.
