Cold Storage Kids Run Celebrates 10 Years Of Family Fun at Sentosa on 28 May

This Sunday May 28, the Cold Storage Kids Run celebrates 10 years of healthy eating, active living and awesome family fun at Sentosa’s Palawan Green.

The event started in 2008 as the only running event for kids in Singapore and over the past decade had attracted over 48,000 child participants. For many families, the event marked cherished milestones in their kids’ formative years.

Some like Thaswika Vanisri from Chongzheng Primary has been participating in the Cold Storage Kids Run even before she could walk on her own. The 7-year-old will be taking part in her eighth consecutive Cold Storage Kids Run this Sunday.

“In our first Cold Storage Kids Run, Thaswika was still a little baby and we had to push her in the Stroller Family Run category,” said her mother Narayana. “This year she will be running by herself in the 800 metres Boogey Banana Sprint. This event brings back a lot of memories as each year at the start line, we remember how much she has grown. More importantly, this event allows us family bonding time and organisers outdone themselves every year by putting up a really fun and exciting race for the children.”

The theme for this year’s Cold Storage Kids Run is ‘Going Places Healthy Paces’ and the event aims to encourage children to lead an active lifestyle and eat healthy from a young age. The run has been held in locations around the island over the years and for the first time ever, the Cold Storage Kids Run will be held at the state of fun, Sentosa.

This year, every child participant gets free admission into Sentosa together with up to four family members. Besides a fantastic race pack, the entire family can enjoy privileges at attractions like KidZania Singapore, Madame Tussauds, Mega Adventure, 4D Adventureland, Go Green Segway and use discount vouchers for retail and restaurants across the island after their run.

“My daughters Faith and Cherish are taking part in the event for the first time and I will be taking time off from my training schedule to support them,” said Jasmine Goh, Singapore’s top marathoner and SEA Games medal hopeful. “Family time is important and as it’s the start of the June school vacation so this will be a wonderful weekend out at Sentosa.”

There are a total of six sprint (competitive) categories where children 7 to 8 years will run 800 metres, while those in the 9 to 10 years and 11 to 12 years will run 1.6 kilometres. Parents and children will have a wonderful time in the six Family Fun (non-competitive) categories covering 800 metres along the scenic Palawan Beach.

The schools with the largest number of students participating will also be awarded the Cold Storage Kids Run 2017 Schools Challenge Award.

More importantly, staff from Cold Storage and event organisers Enterprise Sports Group will also cover 800 metres with children from Care Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore and Care Community Services Society respectively in the “Friends” category.

The Cold Storage Kids Run has attracted more than 128,000 parents and supporters in the past decade and the entire family can look forward to plenty of fun post-race activities at Palawan Green this Sunday. Joining them this Sunday in the special 10th anniversary edition will be Ms Grace Fu, Minister of Culture, Community and Youth, who will join parents and young babies in the ‘Stroller Family Fun Run’ category.
