Tucked away in the corner of Clarke Quay, just across Liang Court, you’ll find this little place called Chupitos. But beware, it’s not for the faint-hearted (or livered) and if you’re not careful, you might just have so much fun that it’ll change your life.
As you walk up to the place, what you’ll notice is the high tables and chairs. The tabletops are quite small, but its a shooters bar, how much of space do you need. Also, the high tables make it very convenient when you’re taking your shots – standing up.
As you walk in you’ll start to realize that Chupitos makes no excuses and is all about fun. You’ll see a small dance floor, DJ console and sofas tucked in the corner. But what will really catch your eye is the stocked bar counter with a delightful array of drinks and novelty items such as Absinthe bottles of various colours, Skull vodka and bongs with some risque attachments that are sure to make you blush – or your mom to smack you at the back of the head for staring too long.
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]The menu comes short of something you’d find at a chemist’s lab with it’s variety of shots and the stuff that goes in there. I’ve actually seen people close their eyes and wave the menu away as if they’re afraid they’d die just by looking at it. The menu is very conveniently segmented into 4 categories – Dare, Deadly, Fruity and Yummy.
You may choose to begin with the ‘Fruity’ or ‘Yummy’ favourites such as ‘Sex on the Beach’ and their more novel and a ‘Paddle Pop’ for all you ice-cream lovers out there. There’s also the ‘Incredible Hulk’ and ‘Captain America’ shot if you feel the need to indulge the fanboy in you.
Now once you’ve had those little creamy shots, you might be thinking: “This is nothing! I’m the king of the world”
Well if that’s the case, it’s time to look at some of Chupito’s deadlier concoctions like the ‘Flatliner’ which gives you a heady dose of bad-assedness. Maybe a deadly ‘Girl Scout’ (which is served with a marshmallow on a stick) and might just make you think twice about how cute and innocent they might be or my personal favourite… The Wolf Bite – once bitten twice shy.
Once that’s done and you’re still game for more, it’s time for Absinthe – green, blue, red or black – with alcohol content reaching up to 85% I wouldn’t exhale anywhere near an open flame for the next hour or so.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
There is no denying value-for-money here. At shots going at $10 – $15 it’s very decently priced. And promotional shots can go as low as $10 a pair (just $5 a shot). Even the more exotic drinks and concoctions price below $50. Its good economical fun where you’ll probably be feeling lighter before your wallet does.
The Chupitos staff a generally very friendly and hardly give cause to complain. A young and energetic bunch that reflect the bar’s buzzing vibe, they’re ever ready with a recommendation and try to accommodate to your requests – they do get quite a few bachelor and hen parties out every weekend and it’s not uncommon to see the staff help them out to make the most of their nights.
[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]If I have one particular bug-bear about Chupitos, it has to be waiting time. During peak periods, it can take quite a while for your order to arrive – up to 30 mins at times. I do understand the reason behind the delay as most drinks are only prepared when ordered and not pre-mixed. With the multiple variations per order, it can take a while. But I am impatient and it does bug me.
However, I have to give favorable mention to their Wagyu beef sliders (mini-burgers) which are to die for and keep to the shots concept of the whole place. Simple and simply delicious. When it comes down to it Chupitos really has something for everyone.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
Chupitos is probably the only shooters bar in Singapore and one that does it well at that. The variation of shots, drops and drinks can rival the infamous Cocomangas bar in Boracay, Philippines. And of course, what’s a shooters bar without a challenge – 12 shots within 30 mins and you may just get your name on the Wall of Fame and a ‘What Dozen Kill You Makes You Stronger’ t-shirt.
The ‘Torture Bomb’ is another bachelor/hen night favourite that makes a great photo opp for the lucky groom or bride-to-be. Just make sure they recover for the ceremony.
In addition to all that, there never fails to be some theme party or promotion running that just pulls you in.
