5 Video Game Trailers of 2014 That Exude Awesomeness

I love trailers.

“Do you mean those big things that you see behind those large trucks? Is that like a weird fetish? ‘Coz I love smearing peanut butter all over my…”

No no no, please do not finish that sentence.

I mean movie trailers or video game trailers. It’s that little sneak preview that you get when the big wigs want to pique your interest or get you hyped for its upcoming release. And far too often, the trailers end up looking far cooler than the finished product.

I love all kinds of trailers, especially video game trailers. Good video game trailers can grab your attention, or pull on your heartstrings. But the great ones can give you goosebumps and make you go “whoa…”

2014 has been a great year for video game announcements, and that means new shiny video game trailers! So here, in no particular order, are my Top 5 Video Game Trailers Of 2014 That Exude Awesomeness:

[divider]BLOODBORNE[/divider]

Bloodborne looks like the love child of Castlevania and Dead Space. The tense atmosphere, the dark gothic undertones and the gore lend a sense of doom and danger to this upcoming horror title.

Mmm, scary good…

[divider]FAR CRY 4[/divider]

Coming off hot of the heels of its popular predecessor, Far Cry 4 features a new villain at the forefront.
Charming, articulate and banana-pancakes-crazy, Pagan Min has stylish evil oozing out of his pores.

When a guy asks you to hold his bloody shiv just to take a selfie, you can be sure you’re in for a world of trouble.

[divider]ASSASSIN’S CREED UNITY[/divider]

I’ve lost count how many different iterations of the Assassins Creed have been released, so it should be no surprise that I’m a little tired of the premise.

But the combination of beautiful rooftop views, stylish parkour action, and not one but 4 assassins whooping butt is enough to grab my attention. Set against the historical backdrop of the French Revolution with the hypnotic tones of Lorde’s cover of Everybody Wants To Rule The World, Unity has got me excited for a franchise that should have gotten stale ages ago.

That final scene of what looks to be the storming of the Bastille never fails to give me goosebumps. Who says you can’t learn anything from video games?

[divider]THE WITCHER 3[/divider]

Based on the popular Polish dark fantasy novels of the same name, the latest trailer from CD Projekt Red features a much older Geralt of Rivia, the titular witcher himself, displaying brutal efficiency in dispatching the baddies, proving that age has not dulled his killer instinct.

The morally ambiguous world of The Witcher and its mature themes combined with an engaging storyline and generous amounts of bloody sword-swinging action has made this adult RPG series a fan favourite.

[divider]THE DIVISION[/divider]

I personally thought this was beautifully done. Featuring a series of jump cuts that show the aftermath of people dealing with loss and tragedy after a catastrophic event in New York City. Add some brilliant voice-acting and The Division becomes proof that Hollywood could learn a thing or two from video game trailers.

I’ve never been a big fan of video games under the Tom Clancy title but this trailer has left me breathless and wanting more.

There you have it, dear readers! I hope you enjoyed watching the trailers as much as I did.

“I did, you magnificent specimen of a man! That was very entertaining. One question though… does this look like a rash?”

Er… eww… Until the next time, readers! Happy gaming!
